The city of Keller was first settled in the early 1850s. It was established on July 19, 1881, a few months after the Texas and Pacific Railroad was extended north of Fort Worth. The area was originally known as Athol, but in the year 1882, it was renamed to Keller in honor of John C. Keller, who was a foreman on the railroad. The city's first post office was built in 1886. It was officially incorporated on the 16th day of November, 1955.
