Kerrville was established in the year 1848. At that time, the area was known as Brownsborough. In 1856, it was renamed Kerrville because of the man Major James Kerr. In May, 1856, Kerrville became the county seat of the newly improved Kerr County. It was established in 1889. Joseph Tivy became Kerrville's first mayor. In the year 1905, Florence Butt incorporated the H. E. Butt Grocery Company which is referred to as H-E-B. In 1929, the Mooney Airplane Company also built their sole factory in Kerrville.
