Late 1800s - early 1900s, San Leandro became known for its delicious cherries, giving rise to its annual Cherry Festival, first held in 1909 and still celebrated today.
San Leandro is able to boast an extensive park system consisting of twenty-three recreation facilities such as neighborhood parks, swimming pools and athletic fields. Three swimming pools and ten large group picnic areas are available for use.
